Privacy policy

We designed the service to work with little personal data. This policy explains the limited processing that can occur.

Postcode searches

Postcodes are sent directly from your browser to Postcodes.io to obtain approximate coordinates. A postcode can identify a small group of addresses, so avoid using the service in a way that reveals someone else's private information. We do not run a server that stores postcode-search histories.

Browser location

We ask for location permission only after you press “Use my location”. Coordinates are used in your browser to find nearby DfT count points. We do not intentionally store them or send them to our own server. Your browser and map provider necessarily handle network requests and IP addresses in the normal way.

Map services

Interactive maps load tiles and style resources from OpenFreeMap, which uses OpenStreetMap data. Those requests may include your IP address, browser information and the area of map being viewed. See OpenFreeMap's terms and privacy information for its handling.

Analytics and advertising

Optional Cloudflare Web Analytics and Google AdSense are disabled unless the relevant environment variables are configured and you choose “Accept optional”. Their providers may process device, network and usage information under their own policies. You can choose “Necessary only” and still use the traffic search and map.

Hosting logs

Cloudflare may process short-lived security and delivery logs, including IP address and request metadata, to serve and protect the static website.

Your choices

You can deny location permission, reject optional cookies or storage, clear the site's local storage, and use postcode or manual map search instead. For a privacy question, email [email protected].
